#MySpindletopStory

Michelle, mother of 3 and loyal Spindletop Center client family

Over the years, Morgan has been one of the very few people who truly understood how difficult life became while my daughter was living at home. She understood the complexity of parenting a child with significant trauma and the impact it had on our entire family. Because of that, I know you understand what a meaningful statement it is when I say that what Morgan did yesterday was extraordinary.

Morgan demonstrated an incredible combination of professional skill, patience, and a deep understanding of our family. She didn’t simply facilitate a meeting. She knew when to give space, when to ask the next question, when to gently challenge, and when to simply be present. Those moments cannot be scripted, and I honestly don’t know that anyone else could have navigated that conversation the way she did.

During the family meeting, one of my sons initially shut down, emotionally. At one point he quietly cried with his face hidden, gathered himself, and then came back into the conversation and fully participated. For me, that moment represented hope. It wasn’t because the problems were solved—it was because Morgan created an environment where he felt safe enough to stay engaged through something that was incredibly difficult.

As his mom, I also found myself emotional. I let a few tears fall, but I mostly found myself watching in amazement as she guided our family through a conversation that could have easily gone in a very different direction.

I know there is still work ahead for us, but I left that day feeling hopeful instead of defeated. That is a direct reflection of Morgan’s ability to build trust, understand family dynamics, and meet people exactly where they are.

I also know that people in helping professions often hear about problems and complaints far more than they hear about the difference they make. I wanted to make sure everyone knows what an exceptional member of the team Spindletop Center has. Morgan has a remarkable gift, and I hope she is recognized for the impact she has on the families she serves.
